Do this to avoid athletic CATASTROPHE!!!

This isn't the first time I've talked about it and it won't be the last...
In-Season training is PIVOTAL for those that want to
- Maintain there Off-Season results
- NOT fade away as the season goes on (When it REALLY matters...)
- Avoid the injury bug
You saw it again this week with one of the most prominent college football players going down with a torn up knee...
Could this have been avoided?
Well, yes and no...
If you are hit hard enough with a valgus force (a force that pushes your knee in), there is little you can do to avoid the dreaded ACL/MCL tear...
That said, you are far more likely to avoid such injury and be able to withstand far more physical punishment if you increase the structural integrity of the muscles surrounding your knees...
By training not just core lifts (squat and deadlift variations), but supplemental and accessory lifts as well, you will effectively build a coat of armor that surounds the ligament and tendons often compromised in contact sports...
With that, here are my Top 5 Rules/Exercises for Avoiding Injuries...
- DON'T neglect In-Season training
- The sled is your friend...Do light drags like its your job
- With Core lifts, think maintenance (push too hard and you could risk overtraining or injury)
- Maintain a good active recovery and Mobility/Flexibility program (more mobility/flexibility means you can get bent like a pretzel without snapping like one)
- Focus on Unilateral leg movements (step ups are my favorite) and movements along the lateral plane as well (remember, a body in balance is key to avoiding injury caused by IMBALANCE)
