of a stretch to assume you
get a lot of your training info
from bodybuilding magazines..
Well I was making my way
through the grocery store the
other day and got side tracked
by a particular one that had a
photo of my boy Arnold on it...
Naturally being the meathead
that I am, I stopped what I was
doing and picked it up.
Of course it took about 30 pages
of BS supplement ads before I was
able to get to any actual training
content (or atleast sweet pics of
Arnold in all of his badass glory)...
But when I finally got to an actual
article I saw something that got me
REAL heated!
I mean I was about ready to kick
some ass I was so mad!
What got me so fired up was a "sample
workout" from someone who was
supposed to be hooking the readers
up with some tips on gaining size..
What it turned out to be was a clinic
on what NOT to do!
Here are 5 exercises he advised that
are actually killing your muscle building
gains:
1) Leg Press (choose squats instead to
trigger more anabolic hormones and
muscle fiber activation)
2) Smith Machine Bench (bench press
like a man for God's sake! Doing so will
again recruit more muscle fibers and help
build more stabilizing muscles as well)
3) Leg Extension (one of the best strength
coaches that mentored me at U. of Florida
told me the only way to build mass with this
machine is to throw a chain around it and
drag it out of the gym! Do lunges instead)
4) Cable Crossover or Pec Deck (this only
attacks one muscle group, and it does a poor
job at that. If you want growth you better do
lifts that hit multiple muscles at once. Go with
dips weighted dips instead)
5) ANY Machine (Cardio machines waste
valuable calories and drive up your muscle
killing hormone Cortisol. Resistance machines
don't allow you to get a full range of motion
or recruit many muscle fibers. Stick with free
weights!)
Don't be embarrassed about these mistakes...
